Historical Overview
The homologation special that turned the 911 into a legend of the ducktail.
Developed for Group 4 homologation, the Carrera RS 2.7 introduced the ducktail spoiler, flared arches and lightweight construction to the 911 lineage. Just 1,580 examples were built across Sport (M471) and Touring (M472) specifications.
Design
Form as intent.
Painted white with period Carrera script in red, blue or green, the RS silhouette is the visual archetype of the air-cooled 911.
Historical Significance
Why it endures.
Cornerstone of every serious Porsche collection. Consistent record-setter across marque auctions worldwide.
Restoration Notes
Preservation over perfection.
Verify chassis stamping against Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Original thin-gauge steel panels and Recaro sport seats separate genuine cars from clones.
Collector Notes
The state of the market.
Sport (Leichtbau) examples with documented history now trade well beyond US$1.5 million.
